Contributor turned Columnist BJ Pheasant has significant D3 experience with women's soccer throughout the midwest as a coach for the past nine years. With experience ranging from successful rebuilding projects to nationally ranked teams with a post season pedigree he is excited to spotlight happenings in the Great Lakes region on a weekly basis to help players, parents and fans of D3 soccer be knowledgeable about the sport and competition.
Prior to his collegiate coaching career, Pheasant was a business consultant in corporate strategy and marketing. He also coached high school teams for eleven years, club teams for nineteen years, DOC for three years, and in the Olympic Development program (ODP) in Indiana. He is also Commissioner of the Lutheran High School All American Association focusing on Lutheran girl's high school soccer across the USA and Canada.
With his natural curiosity and business background he enjoys researching. The intersection of soccer and business has led to state-by-state heat maps of high school senior soccer players for recruiting, a chart showing "Factors in Managing a Soccer Program", a business plan for college soccer "Director of Soccer Operations," and from his dissertation an algorithm showing how many soccer players there 'should be' in "US Soccer Capitalization Rates." These and other projects have outlines on his academia page. Questions and comments welcome!
Pheasant earned degrees in business and agricultural economics from Purdue University in 2002. He also earned a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration & Sports Management from Indiana University in 2009.
