The No. 1 Williams Ephs stayed undefeated this weekend with a 1-1 draw against NESCAC archrival and No. 9 Amherst. The Ephs came into the match leading the conference, but only by a half game over Amherst. Jackie Hirsch got things started for the Lord Jeffs, scoring a goal in the 24th minute, assisted by teammate Alanna Darling. It was only the sixth goal allowed all season by the Williams defense. And although both teams had a number of opportunities throughout the following 20 minutes, the 1-0 score stood at half-time. It didn't happen until late in the match, but the Eph's got their equalizer off a goal by an unassisted goal by Gabrielle Woodson.

By avoiding the loss, Williams moves to 12-0-1 and 7-0-1 in conference play, and faces Middlebury on Friday. Amherst stands at 6-0-2 in the conference and 8-1-3 overall, and will visit Trinity. The NESCAC conference tourney begins on November 2nd with the top eight teams qualifying for the tourney. Discuss the NESCAC tourney and post-season implications. Williams and Amherst have locked in at least the fourth seed and so will host a first round match. Middlebury, Bowdoin, Trinity, and Tufts have clinched a position in the tourney, with Wesleyan, Bates and Colby playing this week for the final two positions.
