Concordia-Austin tabs Greensboro assistant
Corey Holton, formerly an assistant women's soccer coach at Greensboro, has been named as the new Concordia-Austin head women's soccer coach.

Holton assumes the duties formerly held by Jeana Rich, who stepped down in March after five seasons as head coach with a record of 13-58-3.

"Concordia's athletics department is proud to have Corey Holton lead our women's soccer program," said athletic director Dan Huntley. "She will be an asset to our women's soccer team and brings with her a strong background in Division III women's soccer with a history of contributing to winning programs.

"In addition to her athletics experience, Corey also brings a wealth of administrative knowledge to not only our program but also the university."

Holton, a 2005 graduate of Elmira, spent a year with the Eastern College Athletic Conference as the Communications Assistant where she had the opportunity to organize Division II and III soccer championships, as well as the Division I Soccer Jamboree.

"I am excited about the opportunity," Holton said. "I believe the institution, athletic department and women's soccer program are heading in a positive direction. The women's soccer team has great potential and I look forward to building on that and creating a competitive program within the conference."

While at Elmira, she captained her women's soccer team for two of her four seasons, helping the team make it to multiple postseason appearances. Holton graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in psychology. She then went on to get her master's in sports studies from High Point in 2008.

For the past three seasons, Holton has been an assistant coach at Greensboro. As an assistant coach, she was responsible for recruiting, academic counseling, scheduling, arranging travel, scouting opponents and goalkeeper training. During her tenure at Greensboro, Holton coached seven all-conference players, including two all-region players. In the 2007 season, she helped lead the team to a record-breaking season finishing with 14 wins, four losses and one tie.
