As the season has passed the halfway mark and the conference races are heating up, every match from here on out begins to take on postseason implications. Wednesday had a number of these important men and women's matches scheduled around the country that will have an impact on conference standings and NCAA regional rankings.
In the MAC Commonwealth,
the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley upset No. 5 Messiah 2-1. This was Messiah's first ever loss to the Dutchmen, who are now 8-6 overall, 4-0 in conference. Messiah falls to 9-2-2 with the loss. George Andriko had the game winner in the 86th minute off a free kick just outside the Messiah box.

For the women, the WIAC, Centennial, Northwest, CCIW and MIAA all had their top teams in action on Wednesday.
In the MIAA, No. 7 Calvin were 3-0 victors over Olivet, growing to 30 their conference unbeaten streak. The Knights remain in first place at 10-2-1 and 4-0. Junior Emily Ottenhoff had her 10th goal of the season for the Knights. Rival Hope is in second place at 11-4, 5-1 after its 2-0 win over fifth place Albion. Hope has already lost its match with Calvin so the Dutch need to win out and hope for a Calvin loss for a chance at first place. The MIAA tourney begins on Nov. 1.

In the Northwest Conference, No. 4 Puget Sound were 8-0 victors over Pacific Lutheran. The Loggers are in first place at 11-1, 9-0. Whitman is currently holding the second place spot and will play later in the week. The NWC has no conference tourney but does have each team schedule each other twice in the season. In the CCIW, No. 5 Wheaton was upset by third place Carthage 2-1. The Lady Reds improve to 11-1, 3-1 and were recently ranked in the Top 25. With the loss, Wheaton falls to 12-2-1, 4-1, Augustana is currently in second place and plays later in the week. The CCIW tourney begins on Nov. 5.
The WIAC always seems to come down to Stevens Point and Eau Claire, and this year is nothing different. No. 10 Stevens Point defeated UW-Oshkosh 9-0 and improves to 12-2, 6-0. The Pointers are led by WIAC Player of the Week, Amanda Prawat, who had four goals in today's win. No. 22 Eau Claire were 2-0 winners over third place UW-Stout. Freshman Rachel Nerison and senior Amy Smith had the goals for the Blugolds, who improve to 13-1-2, 5-1. Eau Claire's only loss was to Stevens Point earlier in the season, while the Pointer's losses have come at the hands of Trinity (Texas) and rival Wheaton (Ill.). The WIAC tourney kicks off on Nov. 1.
And in the Centennial, No. 9 Johns Hopkins, enjoying first place and a record of 10-0-3, 6-0 defeated second place Franklin and Marshall 2-1. The Diplomats fall to 8-3, 4-2, and haven't won at Johns Hopkins since 1992. The Blue Jays had a goal from freshman Erica Suter, this week's CC Offensive Player of the Week. Third place Swarthmore played fourth place Muhlenberg to a 1-1 tie in the other top match in the conference. The conference tourney starts on Nov. 5.
In men's action, it's a big week in the NJAC. No. 4 Montclair State, 13-0-0 and first place in the conference at 5-0, hosts Ramapo, while
No. 15 and second place William Patterson defeated No. 23 and fourth place New Jersey City University 2-1. NJCU outshot WPU 42-7, but couldn't connect more than once, falling to 9-3-2. The Pioneers improve to 10-1-2. Third place Richard Stockton defeated sixth place College of New Jersey 2-1 on a late goal by Raphael Duarte. The Ospreys improve to 11-3-1 with the win. It is a big Wednesday for the NJAC, flexing its conference muscle this season with 3 teams in the Top 25.
In non-conference action, No. 6 Hobart and Ithaca College played to a scoreless draw. Hobart is now 12-0-2 on the season while the Bombers move to 7-2-2. In similar action in the CCIW,
No. 12 Wheaton played Carthage to a 3-3 draw. Wheaton moves to 10-2-2 while Carthage stands at 6-5-3. Joel DeLass for Wheaton and Cody Alimondi for Carthage each had two goals in the match.
The NCAC wraps up our mid-week coverage with first place Ohio Wesleyan 1-0 victors over Oberlin. Sophomore Brian Greene had the game winning goal in OT for the Bishops, who improve to 11-4 and 5-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, No. 7 and second place Wittenberg were 4-0 winners over Wabash. The Tigers continue to remain perfect on the season at 13-0-0, enjoying their best start in program history. The best match of the season for the NCAC could easily be Oct. 29 when the Tigers and the Battling Bishops face off in Springfield.
