ORANGE, Calif. – Several potential game-winning goal opportunities for the Chapman University men’s soccer team clanged off the crossbar in double overtime as the Panthers tied visiting Cal State East Bay 1-1 in a heated, physical game on Friday night at Wilson Field. The Panthers and Pioneers combined for five yellow cards on the night.

Down 1-0 with just under two minutes remaining in regulation, Chapman (11-4-1) got its lone goal of the game when junior F Alex Sewitz snuck in the game-tying goal from just in front of the net off of an assist from junior F Dean Sewitz. For Alex Sewitz, it was his second goal on the season and it was the second assist on the season for Dean Sewitz.

The Panthers out-shot the Pioneers 30-14 for the game, including eight shots in the second overtime, but could not capitalize against East Bay senior GK Kristopher Hall who had seven saves on the night.

East Bay’s (4-8-3) only goal came gave them a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute when senior D Jordan Ferrell scored off of an assist from freshman F Arnoldo Mendoza.

Last month, Chapman escaped East Bay with a 1-0 victory. Tonight was the Panthers’ third overtime game of the season pushing their overtime record to 1-1-1.
