DELAWARE, OHIO -- Transylvania scored in the 71st minute and went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in a second-round game of the NCAA Division III tournament on Sunday at Roy Rike Field on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.

Transylvania advances to face Swarthmore, a 2-1 winner over Hobart in double overtime on Sunday, in a sectional tournament next weekend.

The Battling Bishops attacked the Pioneer goal early, with junior midfielder Travis Wall sending a header on goal just under 90 seconds into the game and Transylvania keeper Trey Kramer making the save.

In the fourth minute, senior midfielder Jordan Halloran drove toward the Transylvania goal and ripped a shot from point-blank range that Kramer blocked. The ball bounced right back, hit Halloran in the face, and caromed over the end line, with Halloran leaving the game after the play.

Transylvania came back to earn a pair of corner kicks in the seventh minute, culminating in Peter Mikhail\'s header which sailed over the crossbar.

Ohio Wesleyan put together another good scoring chance late in the first half, earning a corner kick in the 43rd minute. Wall blasted a shot from the right side that Kramer blocked, and the rebound went to junior defender Eric Laipple, whose shot from the left side of the box was snared by Kramer.

Freshman goalkeeper Paul Hendricks made a pair of saves in the opening minutes of the second half, stopping a header by Pierre Manga in the 51st minute and then denying Manga again in the 55th minute, deflecting a shot that resulted in a Pioneer corner kick.

The Pioneers broke the scoreless tie in the 71st minute. Transylvania had earned a corner kick, and Jason Fairless sent the ball into the penalty area, and the ball went off a Bishop defender and just under the crossbar for a 1-0 Transylvania lead.

Ohio Wesleyan turned up the offensive pressure, getting shots from senior midfielder Blake Pifer and junior forward Tyler Wall in the 76th and 77th minutes respectively. The Bishops continued to threaten, earning a corner kick in the 80th minute only to see a header by junior back Brian Greene go over the crossbar, and getting a header from junior midfielder Ryan Harmanis that sailed right in the 84th minute, but the Transylvania defense was able to protect the lead.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Transylvania, 21-8. Hendricks finished with 3 saves for the Bishops, while Kramer had 5 saves for the Pioneers.
