Saints Defeat Grove City, 3-1, to Move to 2-0 in the PAC
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College men's soccer team defeated Grove City College, 3-1, today (Tuesday, October 4, 2011) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at The Bank of Kentucky Field.
With the win, the Saints improve to 8-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the PAC and with the loss, the Wolverines fall to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the PAC.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 26:30 mark when freshman forward Alex Robbins (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) scored off a cross from senior midfielder Alex Oeswein (Louisville, Ky./DuPont).
In the second half, the Saints increased the lead to 2-0 when Oeswein scored unassisted at the 45:10 mark. Thomas More extended the lead to 3-0 at the 56:22 when junior midfielder Andrew Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) found the back of the net off an assist from Oeswein. Adam Brewer scored for the Wolverines at the 86:50 mark for the final score of 3-1.
Senior goalkeeper Zack Lawson (Frankfort, Ky./Frankfort) played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded three saves, while giving up one goal.
Thomas More out-shot Grove City, 20-15, including 7-4 on-goal.
Thomas More is idle until next Wednesday (October 12) when it travels to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to play Westminster College at 1:30 p.m.
