Olivet’s Wright, Trine’s Thon Named MIAA Players of the Week in Men’s Soccer
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Olivet midfielder Adam Wright and Trine goalkeeper Nick Thon its Players of the Week in men’s soccer for games played through October 1.
Offensive Player of the Week
Wright, a sophomore from South End, England (Walled Lake Western HS), played a pivotal role for Olivet as the Comets posted two narrow victories to seize sole possession of first place in the MIAA. He helped set up several scoring opportunities in a 2-1 overtime victory over Hope, then scored the game-winning goal as Olivet knocked off previously unbeaten Trine, 1-0. The goal was Wright’s second-game winning tally of the season and marked the first goal scored against Trine in five MIAA games. He is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Defensive Player of the Week
Thon, a senior from South Haven (South Haven HS), continued his strong play in the net as he blanked Calvin, 2-0, for his fourth straight shutout in MIAA play. He made four saves against the Knights and four more in a 1-0 loss to Olivet. Thon, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and in his career, has allowed just one goal in 470 minutes of MIAA play for a 0.19 goals-against average.
