NSCAA Team Academic Award presented to 17 MIAC soccer teams

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)
announced the recipients of its 2010-11 College Team Academic
Awards Friday, and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (MIAC) was well-represented, with 17 MIAC soccer teams
honored.
In order to be eligible for the NSCAA College Team Academic Award,
a team must have a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher
on a 4.0 scale for the 2011-12 academic year. This year, the MIAC
had 10 women's soccer teams and seven men's teams meet that
qualification to earn the award.
On the women's side, Macalester College turned in the highest GPA
of the 10 MIAC teams honored with a 3.55. Concordia College was
next with a 3.52 and the College of Saint Benedict turned in a
3.49. The other teams honored, in order of GPA, were: St. Olaf
College (3.45), Carleton College (3.41), the University of St.
Thomas (3.36), Gustavus Adolphus College (3.32), Augsburg College
(3.31), St. Catherine University (3.24) and Hamline University
(3.06).
On the men's side, the MIAC was led by Carleton College, which
recorded a team GPAC of 3.38. St. Olaf College wasn't far behind
with a team GPA of 3.34, and Macalester College turned in a 3.30
GPA. The other MIAC teams honored, in order of GPAC, were: Augsburg
College (3.29), Saint John's University (3.24), Concordia College
(3.19) and Gustavus Adolphus College (3.12).
In 2011, the NSCAA recognized a total of 787 teams with its College
Team Academic Award, including 568 women's teams and 219 men's
teams. There were 153 schools to have both their men's and women's
team earn the distinction, including six from the MIAC: Augsburg,
Carleton, Concordia, Gustavus, Macalester and St. Olaf.
