Transy men top Trine in Showcase

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kyle Smith scored the game winning goal in the 88th minute Saturday, lifting Transylvania to a thrilling 2-1 win over Trine in the Little Caesar's College Showcast at Thomas Field.

Transy improved to 2-0 on the season while Trine is 0-1. Trine takes on Berea (0-1) in the tournament finale Sunday at 1 p.m. at Thomas Field.

The Pioneers took the lead in the hard-fought contest on a score by Christian King just a half-minute before half-time. He scored from 20 yards out to the upper left.

The game remained a tight 1-0 duel until Trine's Kenny Rappuhn tied in on a defelection at 61:45. Smith, who scored his third goal of the young season, got the game-winner off a corner with less than three minutes to play.

Taylor Nossokoff went the distance in goal for the Pioneers, who had 17 shots to six for the visitors, including an 8-1 edge in shots on goal. Transy had a 5-4 advantage on corner kicks. 

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Thomas More.
