Thomas More Plays Hanover To a 2-2 Double Overtime Tie
(HANOVER, Ind.) - The Thomas More College men's soccer team played Hanover College to a 2-2 double overtime tie today (Sunday, September 2, 2012) at L.S. Ayers Complex in Hanover, Indiana.
With a tie, the Saints remain unbeaten at 1-0-1 and the Panthers are now 0-1-1.
Thomas More took an early 1-0 lead when senior forward Brad Baumer (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) scored on a header off a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Christopher Lehan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) at the 8:47 mark.
Early in the second half the Saints increased their lead to 2-0 at the 47:53 mark when sophomore forward Jonah Ritter (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) scored unassisted.
Hanover scored two goals over the final 42 minutes to tie the game at 2-2 and force overtime as John Wittich scored at 69:10 and Alex Hanke scored at 78:15.
The match ended in a tie as both teams couldn't find the back of the net during the two 10-minute overtime periods.
Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Kees (Covington, Ky./Scott) played all 110:00 in goal and allowed two goals, while recording six saves.
Hanover out-shot the Saints, 17-14, but Thomas More won the battle of corner kicks, 8-5.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (September 5) when it travels to Springfield, Ohio to play Wittenberg University in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
