RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Senior forward Ana Arruda (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) scored for the second-straight game and the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team shutout New York University, 1-0, in the 2011 University Athletic Association opener on Saturday afternoon at Gaelic Park.

The Spartans, ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA Great Lakes Region poll, improve to 7-1-2 overall and will return to action at home on Tuesday, October 4 versus Capital University at 7:30 p.m. at Case Field in Cleveland. With the loss, NYU drops to 7-3.

Case got on the board midway through the first half when Arruda scored via a cross from sophomore forward Leah Levey (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) at the 23:30 mark.

Case's defense held on from there, allowing only four shots on goal for the match. NYU's best chance came with 17:38 remaining when Cami Crawford booted a high shot that was saved by Spartan senior goalkeeper Anna Kennedy (Evanston, Ill./Evanston).

Kennedy recorded four saves for her fifth shutout of the season and 15th career. Meg Patten made seven stops for NYU.

For the match, the Spartans outshot NYU, 17-12, while each team attempted four corner kicks.

Following Tuesday's match with Capital, the Spartans get back into UAA action versus Brandeis University at home on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1:30 p.m.
