No. 8 Cal Lutheran Repeats Result with Banana Slugs
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Scores in the opening minute and final minute during the first half of Sunday's women's soccer contest provided a 2-0 scoring line in favor of No. 8 Cal Lutheran over UC Santa Cruz.

Sinead Vaughan played a role in both goals scoring the first herself only 50 seconds after the opening whistle. She later provided an assist by serving in a corner kick that was finished off by teammate Jen Jones only 38 seconds before halftime.
Cal Lutheran was on the attack in the opening 45 minutes taking 12 of its 15 total shots during the frame. UC Santa Cruz outshot the Regals 6-3 during the second half and placed four of those attempts on target.
CLU starting goalkeeper Renee Standage made her lone save early in the second half before giving way to Tina Hedwall who finished the final 21 minutes. She made three stops in her relief appearance to earn the team's sixth straight shutout.
For the second time this season the Regals defeated the Banana Slugs by a 2-0 margin. Cal Lutheran hosted UC Santa Cruz one week ago at William Rolland Stadium.
CLU had suffered four straight shutout losses to UC Santa Cruz from 2006-2008. Under third-year Head Coach Frank Marino the Regals are undefeated against the Banana Slugs and have won six in a row overall including three straight shutout victories.
Cal Lutheran (15-1-0, 8-0-0 SCIAC) returns to conference play when it hosts La Verne on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. CLU defeated ULV by a 5-0 score back on Sept. 24.
A victory or draw against the Leopards would secure a spot in the SCIAC Post-Season Tournament semifinals on Nov. 3.
