Elmhurst sweeps women's soccer player of the week honors
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Elmhurst’s Valerie Wesley and Maddie Fitzpatrick were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Soccer Players of the Week Tuesday. Wesley, a senior forward from Chula Vista, Calif., and the Academy of our Lady Peace (Nusing major), had a goal and an assist during a 2-1 overtime win over fourth-ranked and previously unbeaten Wheaton on Saturday. Wesley tallied an assist on the game-tying goal with just two minutes left in regulation and then scored the game-winner less than two minutes into the second overtime. She leads the Bluejays in goals (nine), assists (six) and points (23). Fitzpatrick, a freshman goalkeeper from Downers Grove, Ill., and Downers Grove North High School (Pre-Nursing major), registered a season and career-high 14 saves in net for the Bluejays during their win over Wheaton on Saturday. After allowing a goal in the 29th minute, Fitzpatrick recorded 11 consecutive saves, keeping Wheaton off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game and allowing the Bluejays to rally. 2011 CCIW Women’s Soccer Players of the Week Offensive Players of the Week Valerie Wesley – Elmhurst (10/25/11) Taylor Moesle – Augustana (10/18/11) Jaime Orewiler – Wheaton (10/11/11) Katrina Dekirmendjian – North Park (10/4/11) Molly O’Brien – Illinois Wesleyan (9/27/11) Caitlin Winkelman – Augustana (9/20/11) Amy Baschen – Elmhurst (9/13/11) Keri Shannon – Wheaton (9/6/11) Defensive Players of the Week Maddie Fitzpatrick – Elmhurst (10/25/11) Kayla Radloff – Augustana (10/18/11) Laura Karsten – Wheaton (10/11/11) Katie Ibarra – North Park (10/4/11) Laura Karsten – Wheaton (9/27/11) Hilary Barreto – Wheaton (9/20/11) Emily Johnson – Illinois Wesleyan (9/13/11) Amanda Brait – Wheaton (9/6/11)
