Bridgewater Scores Late To Beat Guilford, 1-0
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Bridgewater College avoided the upset Saturday afternoon as a late goal by Melanie Waters gave the Eagles a 1-0 victory over the Guilford Quakers in ODAC action.
The Quakers kept the high scoring Bridgewater attack in check for most of the game as the contest was scoreless until the 79th minute. That's when the Eagles finally cracked the Quakers defense as Waters took a through ball from the left side from Sarah Conner and beat the Guilford keeper for the only goal of the game.
The Eagles had twice as many shots as the hosts, finishing with a 24-11 advantage. BC also had the edge in corner kicks by a 9-5 margin.
Bridgewater goalkeeper Chelsea Steele finished with seven saves to record the shutout. Guilford keeper Cari Karoly finished with 12 saves.
With the victory, Bridgewater improves to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the ODAC. Guilford drops to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
