Women’s Soccer Downed by Local Rival Lasers
NEWTON, Mass. – Visiting Lasell scored three times in the first half and kept Mount Ida off of the board in collecting a 4-0 victory in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at Alumni Field.
The Lasers, who won for the seventh consecutive meeting between the programs, improve to 6-2 on the year, and 3-0 in the GNAC.
Freshman Rebecca Beaulieu (Weare, N.H.) made four stops and played exceptionally well in net for Mount Ida, but the Mustangs fell to 1-7 (0-3 GNAC).
Lasell junior Bridget Lynch (Dover, N.H.) scored twice, including what would amount to the game-winning goal just 2:14 into the first half.
Melissa Leonard (North Brookfield, Mass.) and Molly Lauver (Cambridge, N.Y.) scored less than four minutes apart at the end of the first half to extend the Lasell advantage.
Leonard netted her second goal of the year on a shot from the far right corner that trickled past Beaulieu, while Lauver scored for the first time this season, with the assist coming from freshman Jessica Stewart (Gorham, N.H.).
Lynch scored less than four minutes after halftime, the only tally of the second half. Her second goal of the game was an unassisted score, which she finished in the lower right corner for her 12th goal of the season.
Mount Ida junior Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, R.I.) had several scoring opportunities, particularly in the first half, and ended the game with Mount Ida's only shot on goal.
The visitors outshot their opponents 20-3 and had a 12-1 edge in corner kicks.
Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, Mass.) collected the victory for the Lasers, making that one stop while playing in the first 75:24 of the contest.
Mount Ida will travel to Albertus Magnus on October 2nd for a 4:00 pm GNAC matchup.
Lasell will return home for a conference game the same time against Emmanuel.
