William Smith College junior Dineo Mmutla scored the game-winning goal 52 seconds into overtime to lead the No. 5 Heron soccer team to a 1-0 Liberty League win over Vassar on the Brewers' Gordon Field this afternoon. William Smith improved to 8-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play. Vassar is now 4-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the Liberty League.

Mmutla was granted a direct kick off a Brewer foul just 25 yards out from the net. She sent the ball high with it barely clearing bellow the crossbar and just above the outstretched glove of Vassar goalie Stephanie Tapolsky. It was Mmutla's first goal of the year.

William Smith finished with an 18-5 advantage in total shots. The Heron defense limited the Brewers to just two shots on goal. William Smith almost got on the scoreboard in the 59th minute. Junior Madeline Buckley fired a shot on goal that was stopped by Vassar midfielder Sarah Bourenane.

Senior goalie Chelsea Dunay played all 90:52 in goal for the Herons and finished with two saves to secure her fourth shutout this year. Tapolsky finished with eight saves for Vassar.

William Smith held a 9-0 lead in corners.

The Herons will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 5, when they travel to take on Bard in another Liberty League match at 2 p.m.
