More news about: Mount Ida women's team

NEWTON, Mass. – The Mount Ida College women's soccer team played their final regular season game of the year on Tuesday afternoon and suffered an 8-1 defeat to non-conference foe Framingham State at Alumni Field.

Before the game, Mount Ida honored Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, R.I.), Ashley Ferreira (Ludlow, Mass.), and Rachael Dow (Windham, Maine), who are playing their final game as a member of the Green and White.

Freshman Jamie Dunner (Middleboro, Mass.) got her first collegiate points with an assist in the second half, and Rachael Reese (Santa Cruz, Calif.) netted her fifth goal of the season in the loss for the Mustangs.

Framingham State senior Kayla Austin (Winchester, Mass.) scored twice in the first half as the visitors took a 6-0 lead before the break.

Austin now has 13 goals on the season, while junior Marisa Parent (Revere, Mass.), who opened the scoring with her team-leading 17th goal of the season in the 4th minute, also added an assist.

The lead stayed at 1-0 until the 27th minute, when Isabela DeSouza (Framingham, Mass.) scored the first of four goals in eight minutes. Marisa Miele (Hudson, Mass.) back-footed the ball into the net less than three minutes later for her first goal of the season, then Austin struck twice before Allisa Georgio (W. Greenwich, R.I.) finished the first half scoring with her third goal of the year, after she had picked up the assist on Miele's goal.

The Rams scored four minutes into the second half through junior Emily Biegner (Easthampton, Mass.), who finished with her foot off of a corner kick taken by freshman Meghan Kenny (Danvers, Mass.).

Freshman Claryssa Cunniff (Framingham, Mass.) capped the scoring in the 61st minute with the first goal of her collegiate career after Reese had gotten the Mustangs on the scoreboard.

Sophomore Rebbeca Beaulieu (Weare, N.H.) made stops in net, and also saw Dunner clear a ball off the line in the first half to keep the game a one-goal affair at the time.

Sophomore goalie Sara Sullivan (Quincy, Mass.) recorded five saves in the victory for Framingham State, who outshot their opponents 33-10, including 25-0 in the first half.

The Rams had an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

Mount Ida ends their season with a record of 3-14 and a mark of 2-9 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).

The Rams (12-1-1) have now won eight straight games and are unbeaten in their last 12 contests. They have one more regular season game left, and it is against Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponent Westfield State. The Rams and the Owls will play in Westfield on Saturday at 2:00 pm before Framingham readies itself for the MASCAC tournament.
