#9 Brandeis women battle to 0-0 draw at Emory

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Junior goalkeeper Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) made four saves tonight for her ninth shutout of the season as the Brandeis women's soccer battled to a 0-0 draw with host Emory in a University Athletic Association (UAA) showdown. The Judges, ranked No. 8 in Division III by the NSCAA and No. 9 by D3soccer.com, move to 13-2-2, 2-2-1 in the UAA. The Eagles go to 7-6-3, 0-3-2 UAA.

Emory had the better overall play in the first half, outshooting Brandeis, 6-2, though both squads had two shots on goal. The Judges had the early shots, with Alec Spivack (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) and Allyson Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C. / Pinecrest) putting it on frame in the first 25 minutes. The Eagles' Liz Arnold made both stops.

The Judges tightened the margin in shots over the final 45 minutes of regulation and overtime, outshooting Emory 7-4 over that span. Grossman made a stop early in the second half on the Eagles' Grace Edgarton, 47 seconds in. Arnold denied senior Holly Szafran (Homewood, Ala./Newton North) in the 70th minute. Brandeis had the only two shots of the first OT, while Grossman's save in the 105th minute was the only shot on goal in the extra time.

Grossman's four saves were one shy of her season-best. The Judges moved to 1-0-2 in overtime this season. Emory played their fourth-straight OT contest, going 0-1-3 in that stretch.

Brandeis is back in action on Sunday at 11 a.m. when they head to the University of Rochester. Emory hosts NYU at the same time.
