New Paltz Women’s Soccer Drops 4-0 SUNYAC Decision to Geneseo
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team fell to visiting State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent SUNY Geneseo, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at the South Turf Field.
The Knights broke open the scoring in the 19th minute as senior defender Alexa Wandy launched a corner kick right into the net for a 1-0 lead before senior midfielder Laurie Knapp added another goal in the 25th minute to make it a 2-0 game at the half. Senior midfielder/forward Erin O'Connor and freshman midfielder Domenica Piccoli each tallied a second half goal to seal the final 4-0 victory for the Knights.
Geneseo outshot the Hawks, 9-3, but both teams concluded the game with three corner kicks each.
Senior midfielder Sloane Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) fired off three shots to lead the New Paltz offense while freshman goalkeeper Angela Ratka made three saves between the pipes.
For the Knights, Piccoli recorded three shots while senior midfielder Emily Green fired off two shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Janiszewski earned the shut out, making one save in goal.
The Hawks (1-10-2, 0-4-0 SUNYAC) return to the South Turf Field next weekend when they host SUNY Potsdam on Friday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m
