Douglas leads St. Olaf to 2-0 victory over St. Scholastica
NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior Will Douglas scored twice in the second half as the St. Olaf College men's soccer team downed St. Scholastica 2-0 in a non-conference contest at Rolf Mellby Field to begin its season on Friday afternoon.
Douglas logged his first two-goal game of his career and St. Olaf (1-0) held St. Scholastica (0-1) to just eight shots in the game to secure a victory in their first game under first-year head coach Travis Wall.
After a scoreless first half, Douglas got the scoring started in the 49th minute, as he collected a pass from first year Tomas Gusmao, held off a defender at the top of the box and shot into the lower-right corner of the goal.
Less than 14 minutes later, sophomore Lucas Gaulmin found Douglas with a through ball, Douglas took a touch past the goalie up the left side of the box and found the low right corner for the second time in the game to give the Oles a 2-0 lead.
Junior transfer Hamza Osman did not have to make any saves in the game to record the shutout in his first game as an Ole. St. Olaf had 15 shots in the game, including five on goal, while all eight St. Scholastica efforts were off frame.
