The Oglethorpe men's soccer team extended their SAA regular-season unbeaten streak to 22 games Saturday. They built a 2-0 halftime lead over the homestanding Sewanee Tigers and held on in the second half for a 2-1 victory, improving to 7-3 on the season overall and 2-0 in SAA play.

Both teams fired four shots in the opening 45 minutes of play, but it was the Stormy Petrels who got the better of the action with a pair of goals off the foot of senior forward Ryan Marcano. He scored the opener in the 31st minute off an assist from junior defender Sebastian Carlson, the second of the year for the Petrel defender. Around eight minutes later, the Petrels won a penalty kick and Marcano stepped to the spot. He slotted home his fourth goal of the season and Oglethorpe had a 2-0 lead.

The visitors continued to attack in the second half, outshooting Sewanee 9-6. However, the Petrels put only one of those shots on target, while the Tigers put four shots on frame. Freshman goalkeeper Ulises Rodriguez proved equal to the task, though, making three saves over the final 45 minutes.

Sewanee scored in the 83rd minute, though, slicing the Oglethorpe lead in half with just over seven minutes left. Rodriguez had to make one final save in the 88th minute, but he did just that, preserving the Oglethorpe victory.

For the game, Oglethorpe outshot Sewanee 13-10. Sewanee out-tallied the Petrels 5-3 in shots on goal, though. Each team took two corner kicks over the course of the contest.

The Petrels will be back in action Friday night at 7 p.m. from the Oglethorpe Track and Field, as they host Birmingham-Southern. After that, they'll welcome Millsaps to campus Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
