Trine and Britons Play to a Tie

More news about: Trine women's team

ANGOLA, Ind. - Despite out-shooting their opponent 19-6, the Trine University women's soccer team had to settle for a tie with Albion College 1-1. The Thunder now sit at 1-4-2 on the season and 0-2-1 in the MIAA.

All the action in the first half was down at the Britons end of the field as Trine out-shot Albion 10-0 in the half. Five of the Thunder's shots came on net, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

The Thunder defense allowed just one shot on goal in the second half, but a handball in the box in the 66th minute gave Albion the opportunity to score. The Britons Rachel Reem would covert on the penalty kick to give them the lead.

It would take nearly the rest of the period for the Thunder to put a ball on net, but when they did, Trine made sure to make it count. Off of sophomore Eleni Agelopolous' (Munster, Ind./Munster) corner kick, freshman Skyler Reed (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll) headed home the equalizer for her second goal of the season with just seven minutes remaining in regulation.

Each team had a shot on goal in each of the two overtimes, but the Thunder had the best opportunity in the second OT. Sophomore Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) launched a ball from the top of the box. In one of the craziest plays either coach said they had ever seen the ball ricocheted off the cross bar, off the left post and into the Albion goalies hands.

Freshman goalie Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet) made three saves on the day for the Thunder.

Reed led the Thunder with six shot attempts.

Trine will look to get their first conference win of the year when they host Adrian College at 12:00 p.m. on September 22.
