THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (October 8, 2013) – Tuesday night at Reinhart Field on the campus of Maritime College was a historic night for the Privateer women's soccer team as the squad picked up its ninth win of the season to set a new single-season record for wins in one campaign. Maritime defeated the York (N.Y.) Cardinals by a score of 4-1 behind three different goal scorers.

Amongst the goal scorers was senior Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca), who picked up her 21st goal of the season to break her previous single-season high set back during her junior year in 2011. Freshman Marisa Athan (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) picked up the first two goals of the game as the rookie gathered her first multi-goal game of her career, sophomore Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) also picked up her first goal of the season, and third of her career to end the scoring for the Privateers.

Athan opened up the scoring just under 11 minutes into the game as she took a pass from junior Gabrielle Fox (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) chipped a pass up ahead to Athan, who then dribbled past York netminder Sarah Hilaire and into the goal for the first tally of the contest.

About 10 minutes later, the pair hooked up to score once again as Fox crossed the ball to Athan. The freshman received the cross and made a sliding effort to sneak it past the goalkeeper once again and put her team up by a pair at just 21:44 into the contest.

Maritime continued to control much of the play in the opening stanza and in the 42nd minute of play, the Privateers scored once again. This time it was Lavelle to pick up the ball and feed a well-timed through-ball to Trenkamp, who went five-hole on Hilaire to net her 21st goal of the season to set the single-season goals mark.

The Privateers went into the halftime break with a comfortable 3-0 lead, and had a 45-minute total of 20 shots while York (N.Y.) was only able to muster three.

In the second half, the Cardinals had several chances in the early-going of the period as did Maritime, but it was York (N.Y.) to break through first in the second half with a goal in the 67th minute. Jessica Cornejo slotted the ball deep down the field, where it was Estefany Delgado with the first touch to take on Privateer sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Hoar (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore East) 1-on-1. Delgado shot towards the lower left corner of the goal, just out of the reach of a diving Hoar to put York (N.Y.) on the board and trim the Maritime lead to two.

Maritime scrambled and put together several more offensive opportunities down the stretch of the contest, and after a costly Cardinal turnover, Lavelle blooped a shot towards the goal that sailed into the back of the goal for the sophomore's first goal of the season.

Shortly after Lavelle's goal, the final horn had sounded to clinch the ninth win for Maritime in 2013 to set the new program record for wins in a season, breaking the previous mark of eight wins set by the 2009 team.

Final shots were in favor of Maritime at a 35-6 differential, while Hoar picked up her ninth win of the season to eclipse Courtney Marietta's mark of eight, also set during the 2009 season. Hilaire took the loss, despite making 11 saves.

Maritime (9-5, 2-2 Skyline) will resume Skyline Conference action and conclude its five-game home stand on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. when it takes on Sage in a key league matchup. York (N.Y.) (1-10, 0-4 CUNYAC) will next play on the road against Medgar Evers on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
