Hoar Stops Career-Best 21 Shots as Privateers Drop Game to Knights
THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (October 18, 2013) – The Maritime women's soccer team played its final home conference game of the season on Friday night in a game against the Mount St. Mary Knights. Despite a career-high 21-save performance from goalkeeper Kristen Hoar (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore East), the Privateers dropped the matchup to the Knights by a 6-0 score on Reinhart Field.
In the ninth minute of play, the Knights took a driving shot towards the top portion of the net that Hoar bade a leaping save that was pushed off the crossbar and out of play to keep the game scoreless. Shanice Robe put the Knights on the board in the 17th minute off of a pass from Vanessa DiSilvio.
Through the remainder of the first half, Mount St. Mary tacked on three more goals and took a 4-0 lead into the halftime break. Through the first 45 minutes of play, Hoar was credited with 12 save through the first 45 minutes of play.
Maritime picked up its first shot of the half as senior Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) picked up a low line-drive shot that was scooped up by the Mount St. Mary goalkeeper. In the 56th minute of play, the Knights picked up another goal and increased its lead to five.
At 57:37 of the game, Trenkamp skimmed a shot just off the top of the crossbar on a free kick from just outside the arc.
Mount St. Mary scored once more, despite Hoar making several highlight-reel saves throughout the remainder of the game. Maritime also had several chances to get on the board down the stretch of the game including a header shot by sophomore Jori Cooper (Chazy, N.Y./Chazy Central Rural) off of a corner kick that was saved by Knight goalkeeper Abigail McQuillen.
Hoar ended the game taking the loss while making a career-best 21 saves on the game. Earning the win was starter Jacquelyn Mancini, who didn't record a save but did pick up the win in the first 45 minute of play. McQuillan made three saves to help preserve the shutout victory for her squad.
Maritime (10-8, 2-5 Skyline) will wrap-up its 2013 home schedule with a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. Prior to the game the Privateers will honor its three senior class members. Mount St. Mary (12-4, 6-0 Skyline) will take on Purchase this Tuesday on the road against the Panthers at 7 p.m.
