Oglethorpe Falls to Emory

The Oglethorpe women's soccer team fell to the homestanding Emory Eagles on Thursday evening in Atlanta, dropping the contest 9-0 to their nationally-renowned opponent. The loss marked the Stormy Petrels' first loss of the season, dropping them to 2-1.

The Eagles jumped on Oglethorpe early and the Petrels were unable to come up with a response. They jumped ahead in the sixth minute and doubled their lead in the 13th. From there, they stepped on the gas and scored five more times in the opening half.

Emory slowed down a bit in the second half, but they were able to add three more goals to their total.

Despite the score, it could have been far worse, as Oglethorpe goalkeepers came up with 18 total saves on the evening. Sophomore Lindsey Bolas tallied 10 in the first half, while fellow sophomore Sidney Stone recorded eight in the second half.

For the game, Emory outshot Oglethorpe 44-3 overall and 27-1 in shots on target. They also took 10 corner kicks to Oglethorpe's one.

The Petrels will have to recover quickly, as they'll be back in action within 48 hours. They'll host LaGrange Saturday at 4 p.m. from the Oglethorpe Track and Field. After that, they'll embark on a 4-game road swing, including non-conference games against Huntingdon, Agnes Scott and Bob Jones, as well as their SAA opener against Centre.
